High School Clinic

Are you having trouble getting your students excited about music?  Do you want to imbue them with a sense of personal creativity and responsibility?  Or are they simply "too cool for school" and dismissive of the cultural importance that you are trying to teach?  Conflux is here to help.  Our music is intricate enough to teach complicated topics, but accessible enough to appeal to a younger generation that regards art as something to be learned rather than enjoyed.  Our clinic can range from a single class period to over two hours, and we will cover, among other things, the following topics:

  • Methods for finding the essential elements of a genre of music and using them to create new and interesting sounds

  • Intermediate explanations of harmony and melody as used in both jazz and heavy metal

  • Big picture analysis of the "why" of music, and why it matters

  • How learning about traditions like classical, jazz, and folk is essential to modern creativity

  • Performances of Conflux songs to illustrate the above points

We promise that your students will experience a renewed excitement in the material that you are presenting to them.  By melding hard rock music with the sophistication of jazz and classical styles, we create an environment in which academic topics have a solid relationship with a high schooler's own personal experience, encouraging them to study are as a means to their own unique ends.
